Nice to meet you and thanks for visiting my blog and now following. I look forward to seeing your works!
Just found your blog in response to a comment on my abandoned blog about the presentation of the Pushkin Sonnet. I think I shall subsequently address it on my replacement site: http://poetscollective.org/everysonnet/
And while I am at it, I think you have presented a sonnet form that I ought to add: 2. Grundrezept für ein Alexandrinersonett
Alas I am not bilingual but think that its rhyme scheme and alexandrine meter make is a unique form. Before I begin I would like more information.
Does the from have a name? Are you the creator, if so may I link to your blog with my attribution. – Larry Eberhart
Hi Larry, thank you for writing me.
Alexandriner is a jambic form of a vers line.
It was used mostly during the time of baroque.
It was first introduced in French poetry and later Max Opitz used it for Sonnet translations. It became a kind of template for writing sonnet verses. Alexandriner does not indicate the Rhyme structure but rhythm.
Also Gryphius, Hoffmannswaldau, Logau, Silesius und Weckherlin used it for their sonnets.
A German source for my statement, by Renate Golpon, is here; http://www.hellakarl.de/alexandriner.html
Here is a sonnet by Opitz from his translations to German
Translated into old New High German from „From the Italian Petrarca’s collection“
Opitz used the traditional Rhyme schema and the Alexandriner Line.
I called my sonnet „Alexandriner-Sonett“ because of this line style.
I’ll try to give an English line:
(my own humble translation)
You see the cut after the first half line;
Is love just empty void, / so that it makes me burning?
The Alexandriner Sonnet was used seldom after the 18th century, but is good for sarcastic mode. It never was fully lost.
Hallo Bernd,
ich mag deine Webseite hier sehr. Ist genauso witzig und klug und überraschend wie deine Präsenz am aphog-Stammtisch Samstagabends!
Danke sehr.
